What is a Class Action?

Generally, class action lawsuits involve commercial or business related matters. These commercial class actions usually involve a claim where the amount of money at stake is so small that it would not pay for a single person to file a claim individually.

But, by combining all the claims together, through a class action, the people who have been harmed are able to obtain adequate representation and fight the resources available to the person or company that has harmed them.

For example, if a company acted illegally and caused many people to lose $2000, no single person would pursue a claim because the amount of damage is too small. The company would be off the hook. If, however, the claims of many people were joined together, then the company must face the prospect of paying a significant amount of money.
